Welcome to the Aosta Valley
The Valpelline and Great St Bernard Valleys
Aosta Valley, the tourist destination for mountain lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, is renowned for its peaks, history, Roman remains, medieval castles and culinary traditions.
There are, however, two valleys in the region that have almost entirely escaped the eye of mass tourism – the Great St Bernard Valley and the Valpelline.
One of the region’s most interesting valleys from a historical point of view is definitely the Great St Bernard Valley. Merchants, travellers and pilgrims have used this point to cross the Alps since ancient times, and the vast number of characteristic small villages peppered along the route testify this.
The region’s longest valley, the Valpelline, has preserved its unspoilt, rugged landscape. Both are idyllic destinations for those who love tranquillity and the outdoor life.
